Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) to the Paris Agreement updated: Norway
In April 2021, the Norwegian government proposed amendments to the Climate Act, in order to reinforce the 2030 and 2050 climate targets.
The objectives at the EU level are a reduction of net emissions by 55% before 2030, compared to 1990 levels, and carbon neutrality by 2050.
Norway’s objectives are more ambitious than those of the European Union.
2030 objectives:
- Reduce emissions up to 55%
- Cut non-quota emissions by 45%. It is legally non-binding, and Norway’s commitment with the EU is to cut non-quota emissions by 40
- Carbon neutrality
2050 objectives:
- Reduce emissions by 90-95%, making Norway a low-emission society.
